new Lone

Nottingham's Lone seemingly dropped the ball with his last record Ecstasy & Friends, but he always seems to come through with great 12" singles-- this is no exception. Much like Zomby's Where Were You In '92, "Pineapple Crush" is an updated, left-field nu-beat take on dance music from the 1990s. (I've dubbed this movement "Nu-Beat" since, well, "wonky" sounds just ridiculous and because "Nu" spells-out '90s, to describe this non-ironic, backwards-glancing sound.) Werk Discs put this out back in August (so late to the game!), as a 10" single, and re-released it with (decent) remixes soon thereafter. Somehow, with all of the dated samples and rave-y sonics, Lone's signature sound remains intact. This is just plain fun. Recommended.
